Wills & Estates
Estate Planning
The vast majority of Canadians need a basic estate plan, consisting of the Estate Planning Trilogy:
- Will
- Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA)
- Personal Directive (PD)
These are available at a fixed fee of $900, or $1,200 for a couple.
Other advanced estate planning techniques may be required, such as use of a trust (family trust, alter ego trust, spousal trust), business contingency planning, out-of-province assets, etc. To work on these, there is an hourly rate of $275 per hour.
Estate Administration
Very few estates can be administered without the involvement of the courts. Usually, a bank is not satisfied with just a death certificate.
Fortunately, this process can be completed at a set rate of $2,000 +1% of the deceased’s net estate. Alternatively, if you would prefer the hourly rate, you can choose that option.
Estate Litigation
“Estate” litigation might as well be called “family litigation”! Often times, what is already a painful experience becomes simply tragic by a fight erupting between individuals with an interest in the deceased’s estate. If this occurs, I can help at a rate of $275 per hour.
