Insolvency
In Canada, the insolvency process is supposed to be an organized, civilized, and professionally managed process. Usually it is. For those cases, Licensed Insolvency Trustees do the heavy lifting, and you shouldn’t need a lawyer.
Sometimes, however, it is not so organized, nor civilized. I can act for debtors and creditors.
A debtor may need to retain a lawyer if they disagree with an approach taken by their Trustee, or even worse, if the debtor is stuck in bankruptcy without a Trustee to assist with the discharge application. A creditor might need help if it is clear that insolvency law is being abused to avoid paying a proper debt.
There are many other situations that fall outside of the normal process, which a lawyer can assist with.
